Faces of Insanity, troisième album du groupe russe Epitimia, est parsemé de concepts psychiatriques mais le plus important est, je pense, celui du test de Rorschach : ce qui compte, ce n'est pas la perception mais l'interprétation. Pour pousser à cet effort, Epitimia navigue volontairement entre deux eaux : la production, les guitares et le chant ont le tranchant du DSBM (Epitimia se rapproche de Psychonaut 4 sur la cinquième piste) mais les mélodies sont très riches, voire groovy. Certains vont bondir à l'idée de "rafraîchir" le black metal dépressif mais c'est bien à cette tâche que se consacre Funeral Fornication dans Solitude and Suicide. Les mélodies lancinantes tournent en boucle ("Channeling Volatile Energy"), Vultyrous hurle son désespoir à s'en déchirer les cordes vocales et la production est distante. Mais c'est surtout par les synthés qu'il surprend car ils sont très dramatiques voire théâtraux, ils nous attirent dans la tourmente comme le chant des sirènes... Jordan Vauvert
